No, because the communication of the collar to the connector bad been greatly improved.
The GPS connector communicates to the GPS collar using MURS radio frequency. This information is then relayed from the GPS connector to your phone using Bluetooth.
No, the GPS connector does not need to be on your body. It can be in your vehicle or placed elsewhere as long as it is within 10 meters of your smartphone for the Bluetooth to work.
Keep the antenna on the GPS connector exposed and away from your body since touching the antenna on the GPS connector may reduce the range. Keep your unit properly charged for maximum signal strength and keep the GPS connector near your phone for proper operation, preferably less than 10 meters.
- The batteries may not be properly charged or the charger, splitter cable, and the charging port may not be functioning properly. Make sure that all pieces are working properly and that the devices show a solid charging light when plugged into the charger.
- The charging pin may be damaged. Inside the charging port, there is metal pin that should be standing straight up and stiff. If the pin is wobbling, broken, or missing, you will need to send the unit in to the Repair Department.
- The charging port must be clean prior to charging; clean the dirt out with a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol. If the dog is in salt-water, be sure to rinse the receiver and charging port with clean water.
- For Dogtra units over 2 years old from the purchase date, the batteries may need to be replaced. You can replace them yourself or send the unit in for repair. Damages incurred to the unit due to improper battery installations are not covered under the warranty, so we strongly recommend sending the unit in for inspection and repair.
The battery life of the PATHFINDER2 will vary depending on several factors. On average, the GPS connector and GPS collar will last a full day. You may increase the battery life of the GPS collar by using a slower update rate setting and limiting stimulation usage. You may also turn on the Rescue Mode on the GPS collar to increase the battery life by almost 6 hours.
Yes, it can be replaced by removing the four screws and the contact points. Once you've removed the screw holding the antenna, you can replace it with a new one. While you are able to replace it yourself, we would recommend sending the collar back for replacement so that it is done properly and does not void any warranty.
- Your dog may have skin irritation from improper fit or from wearing the collar too long. Leaving the receiver/collar in the same location for an extended period of time can cause this irritation.
- If your dog is to wear the e-collar for long periods, occasionally reposition the collar so that the contact points are moved to a different location.
- If your dog exhibits signs of skin irritation, consult your veterinarian. Once your dog's skin returns to a normal condition, continue to use the collar and check your dog's neck each time you use the unit.

The smartphone's battery life will vary by device and age; older devices will hold significantly less charge than newer devices. The PATHFINDER2 app uses GPS and location services on your smartphone and will deplete the battery quickly as recommends lowering your screen brightness and using an external battery to keep your phone charged while using the PATHFINDER2
No, the information cannot be shared unless that person has GPS connector that can operate and track on the phone. Even if the app is downloaded and the individual is within close range, the app will not show any information without a connecting device.
Offline Use
Phones that are not in service can still be used with the PATHFINDER2. Data service is required to view Maps, but the Offline Maps can be downloaded beforehand using Wi-Fi.
The PATHFINDER2 GPS collar uses the signal from a satellite to send information to the PATHFINDER2 app on your smartphone via the GPS connector. Cellular service is only needed to access offline Maps on your phone. If you are going to rural places that will have little to no service, you can plan you trip ahead and download the map via Offline Maps tab. The GPS works independently from the cellular service on your phone, similar to how Bluetooth will work without cellular service.
Connectivity
If you are having this issue, please try the following solutions:
- Pair the GPS connector via the PATHFINDER2 app instead of the smartphone's Bluetooth screen.
- If the GPS connector connects to stronger Bluetooth signals and may reject the weaker signal.
- If there are many Bluetooth devices connected to the smartphone, disconnect them and pair the GPS connector only.
- Reboot the smartphone.
- If the issues is not resolved. Please give our support a call and we will be more than happy to trouble shoot.
